TASKFORCE Subaward Announcement

Advocates for Human Potential (AHP) is pleased to announce the 2 organizations that have been awarded funding to serve as the West Side and South Side Opioid and Heroin Taskforces. A total of $5,250,000 has been awarded over a period of 3 years. The Taskforces will establish or expand community-based and collaborative workgroups in Chicago with the goal of preventing opioid overdose deaths (OODs) in areas that have experienced disparate and disproportionate loss, particularly Black and Brown communities.
The Taskforce subrecipients include the following organizations:
Prevention Partnership, Inc. is a minority-governed nonprofit organization located on the West Side of Chicago. Their community-based programs are designed, implemented, and evaluated utilizing the help of community coalitions composed of indigenous residents and organizations. Their programs include Youth Drug and Alcohol Prevention, Teen Pregnancy and HIV/AIDS Prevention, Gang & Domestic Violence Prevention, Responsible Alcohol Beverage Service to Adults including Drunk Driving Prevention for Bartenders & Servers through in person or online training throughout Illinois.
South Side Heroin/Opioid Task Force
The South Side Heroin/Opioid Task Force is comprised of community-based agencies (CBO), health care providers, and governmental agencies to address the opioid epidemic on the south side of Chicago. The South Side Heroin and Opioid Task Force acts on the belief that education, training, crisis mitigation, and harm reduction education are necessary to help communities reduce overdoses and deaths related to opioid use. Their goals are to raise awareness of illegal drug use, increase supportive services for users, integrate mental health and substance use disorder treatment services and recovery, and implement a coordinated collaborative for better outcomes.
